Joseph Szlamnik
I, Joseph Szlamnik, believe dysfunctional emotions can often be a contributing factor to physical illness and that finding a holistic way to cope with these emotions can lead a person to a state of well being. It is my mission to reach out and support those who have and are suffering from stress, trauma and loss. I am dedicated to promote healing by providing respectful, compassionate, and effective substance abuse services.
I have been an active supporter of public service since 1997. I have worked in a variety of clinical settings with individuals, couples, and families for the past several years. Most of my experience is in successfully collaborating with substance abuse and co-dependence consumers who presented with various addictions, depression and hopelessness, fear and anxiety, trauma, anger, abuse and parenting challenges.
I am currently employed as a Vocational Specialist for Hyde Street Community Services/Tenderloin Outpatient Clinic, a full service integrated medical/therapeutic partnership that serves the behavioral health needs of the Tenderloin adult community.
I also am employed as a DUI Multiple Offender Counselor with the National Council on Alcoholism and other Drug Addictions-Bay Area. I embrace the organization's mission of reducing the prevalence and consequences of alcoholism and other drug diseases through education, diagnosis, and treatment.
Previously, I was employed with The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in San Francisco as a Substance Abuse Counselor supporting the organization’s mission to provide respectful and supportive counseling services to its adult beneficiaries; some who were self-referred and many of whom were referred by County Probation.
Moreover, under the supervisory guidance of my Mental Health Clinical Director at the Daly City Youth Health Center, I provided therapeutic services to low-income adolescents and their families who presented with a variety of mental health and substance abuse issues. I assisted several individuals, their significant others and their families in developing practical problem solving skills for difficulties that arise at school, home or in relationships.
Lastly, I have facilitated several group discussions on several topics. These include anger management, stress management, time management, socialization, spiritual/self-insight, smoking cessation, relapse prevention, trust in recovery, family co-dependency, and parenting education.
